Thomas Chilton was born on July 30, 1798 and died on August 15,1854. He was a U.S. Representative and a Baptist cleragyman. The Chilton Home is located at 709 College Street in the town of Montgomery. Rev. Thomas Chilton lived here until his death in 1854. The picket fence was built by David Dean in the 1890's. The fence is made from heartmpine cut in his mill. Gregeroy Hudson bought the home in 1984 and restored it and he lived here while he was the mayor of Montgomery. It 1996 it became a bed and breakfast until Fred and Betty Harvey bought it. The Harvey's currenently live there. There's a story about the Jesse James gang that rode into Montgomery and started a shoot out .Bob Oliver went into the Chilton House and was stabbed by the Wright children . He died under a bed. After the shoot out all of the four men from the Jesse James gang were dead and that's when they were permitted to be buried at the new Cemetery .The resididents of Montgomery at the time did not want them buried at the Old Cemtery so they made the New Cemtery. Three of the four bodies were buried in the New Cemetetery but the exact location of the fourth body is unknown.
